God's Dream for You...


Have you ever felt like everyone is against you?  Like the entire world is conspiring to see you fail? Especially this early in the morning, maybe you are on your way to work, and you just cannot see a future… 

Well, I want to remind you of something very important today.  Something that we don’t usually think about.  God is on your side.  He is for you and not against you.  Jeremiah 29:11 say that “God has a plan for your life, a future and a purpose.” 

What Jeremiah was saying centuries ago, is that God has a dream for YOU.  Think about that for a second, just as you dream for your kids, or even for yourself, God also dreams for you.  So when you feel tired, or at the end of your rope, stop, quiet yourself, and listen.  Listen for God’s dream for your life.

Something Stinks

In   John 11  there is a story about a man named Lazarus. He was a man that was a dear friend of Jesus, but one day he died. Jesus, hearing that he died, stalled. He took a few days just hanging out, knowing that his friend was dead. I have some personal issues with this text, but this is not about my need for therapy, there is a very important point buried in here that God wants you to get. Verse 15 - Jesus says “I am glad I was not there when he died, so that you can believe.”  There are some things in our lives that have died. Important things, things that meant a lot to us. Leadership Lessons from Crepe Myrtles

Last spring I cut the side of my face, right my left ear.  After the bleeding stopped I learned a great lesson about life, leadership, and relationships.  Along the front of our church we had a beautiful life of crepe myrtles.    They looked breathtaking: bright red, full of blooms and just a year old.  They had grown at a very rapid pace, partly because we had an unusually mild winter, partly because the temperature has been quite comfortable for them, but mostly because we have had a lot of rain extending late into the summer.   For those who are not familiar with Arkansas weather patterns, we usually have a lot of spring storms, bringing with them massive rains. Flash-floods - you know, National Weather Service alarms on your phone, kind of rains.  This usually happens from around April until the middle of June.  Then something crazy happens - the rain stops.  I mean, turn the spigo...

The Value of People

I want to write about this value because, quite simply, because it is one of the most important values in my life, and the life of Encounter Church.  It is the hinge pin that supports all that we do in ministry.   I have to start this blog on the value of people with a story that Pastor Rick Bezet told the staff at New Life Church in Conway, AR.  He said he would think so much about reaching the "next one", looking for the "next one" that he prays for God to show him the "one" that he was speaking to in every service.  No matter what the venue, the size of the audience or the location, he is always looking for the "one" that God has brought to that service for him to speak to.
